In 2019, the JLB is pleased to announce their first ever Volunteer-A-Thon on Friday, April 12, 2019 through Saturday, April 13, 2019. This will be a 26.2 hour marathon of continuous voluntarism where League members will participate in various efforts benefiting Oakland County community outreach programs. The Volunteer-A-Thon seeks to build awareness to the Junior League of Birmingham and the organization’s commitment to voluntarism and efforts to support women and children in crisis in the community. Over 80 volunteers are expected to participate in the effort which will include providing and serving meals at Haven of Oakland County, Grace Centers of Hope, and Hope Warming Center in Pontiac, cleaning up and preparing spring gardens at Lighthouse of Oakland County and Oakland Family Services, cleaning an apartment home for human trafficking survivors for Hope Against Trafficking, providing an after school fun night with parents and children at CARE House of Oakland County, and making fleece tie blankets for donation to organizations in need, including Common Ground and Fleece & Thank You. Follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/jlbham, Instagram at @jlbmich, and Twitter at @JLBMichInc for marathon updates throughout the event!
Since 1993, the JLB hosts its Pumpkin Patch event the last Sunday before Halloween each year on Merrill Street in downtown Birmingham near The Community House and Baldwin Public Library. This family-friendly Halloween celebration is no cost to attendees and open to the public. Each year, approximately 900 children and their families participate in games, crafts, and entertainment while dressed in their spooky best! Attendees also have the opportunity to march in the Birmingham Halloween Parade conducted that afternoon through the streets of Birmingham.
