Children’s health and wellness is a key area of focus of the JLB’s community programming. Kids in the Kitchen is a program provided by the JLB to local school districts designed to empower youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues. This initiative is supported in schools across the country by The Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. and its member Leagues.
Since 1993, the JLB hosts its Pumpkin Patch event the last Sunday before Halloween each year on Merrill Street in downtown Birmingham near The Community House and Baldwin Public Library. This family-friendly Halloween celebration is no cost to attendees and open to the public. Each year, approximately 900 children and their families participate in games, crafts, and entertainment while dressed in their spooky best! Attendees also have the opportunity to march in the Birmingham Halloween Parade conducted that afternoon through the streets of Birmingham.
